Responding to a Story

Image result for film industry georgia

After Stacey Abrams’s loss in Georgia’s election, many have called to boycott Georgia’s Film and TV industry- the most generous in the country in terms of direct tax credit payouts. Many actors, including Alyssa Milano, Bradley Whitford, Steven Pasquale and Ron Perlman have voiced their support to the boycott. Abrams stated:  “I appreciate the calls to action, but I ask all of our entertainment industry friends to support #FairFightGA – but please do not #boycottgeorgia. The hard-working Georgians who serve on crews & make a living here are not to blame. I promise: We will fight – and we will win.”

Boycotting Georgia might cause a change, but will hurt many people along the way. Especially the minorities. Stacey Abrams‘s stance on the boycott shows her care and support for fellow Georgians; choosing the Fair Fight without jeopardizing the jobs of innocent people.

Thing That Make Me Happy

Watching movies

Whenever I’m feeling stressed out or a little down, I watch a movie to relax. I usually turn on a classic Disney movie- as they give me a nostalgic feeling that helps me relax. If I happen to have a lot of work to do, I oftentimes keep the movie playing in the background with a low volume to get to the work done.

Reading a good book

I enjoy reading novels; as you can imagine the whole story. The characters and setting all play like a private movie in your head. I’m definitely a picky reader- but if I find the book interesting I’ll definitely lose some sleep trying to finish it.

Discovering new places

I really enjoy exploring new places and connecting with nature. You don’t have to travel far- it could just be a walk along the river. Somehow, being isolated from civilization for a few hours helps me recharge.

The Circle Of Life

The Lion King stars with its famous song The Circle of life. It starts in the Zulu language before switching to English.

Nants ingonyama bagithi Baba

Sithi uhm ingonyama

Nants ingonyama bagithi baba

Sithi uhhmm ingonyama

Ingonyama

Siyo Nqoba

Ingonyama

Ingonyama nengw’ enamabala

Which means:

There comes a lion, father

Oh yes it’s a lion

There comes a lion, father

Oh yes it’s a lion

A lion

We’re going to conquer

A lion

A lion and a leopard come to this open place

This nostalgic and peaceful song is played when dawn breaks, as animals from different species travel from different parts of the kingdom to Pride Rock, celebrating Simba’s Birth. There, Rafiki is greeted by Mufasa and Sarabi and proceeds to bless Simba. Subsequently, he lifts Simba up, and the animals bow to the future king. The Song is played once more in the end of the movie, to welcome Simba and Nala’s newborn daughter. It’s about the enduring circle of life, living peacefully and that all living creatures will die someday.

The song is composed by Elton John, the lyrics by Tim Rice, and is performed by Carmen Twillie and Lebo M.

Cartoon

This cartoon is a based on a famous scene in Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. Where Darth Vader confronts Luke Skywalker, disclosing his relationship to him. It’s funny as it shows Darth Vader as Cassette Tape holding a red Ballpoint pen and Luke Skywalker as an iPod. I love the attention to detail in this cartoon, replicating the costume colors in the movie, especially the red Ballpoint pen that serves as a red lightsaber or in this case of the cassette the most post powerful tool needed for survival.

This I Believe

I believe in treating people equally. No one should be discriminated upon based on their race, belief, or skin color. Everyone deserves to be treated with kindness, courtesy, and politeness regardless of their age. Respecting one’s privacy and beliefs is an important way of respect. I was privileged to have an unbiased upbringing as my parents always taught us the importance of respecting others, regardless of race, religion or color. They taught me to never look down on anyone or consider myself superior to others. A simple habit that I grew up with was offering beverages such as water or juice to the handymen while they worked in our house. This simple act is a way of treating people equally.
